Helping young people be the best they can be… ‘Y’ your help is needed
Do you have the skills, the tools or the supplies to give the Y Centre in St Pauls Road a much needed make over?
Sussex marketing agency PMW is asking local suppliers, tradespeople and businesses to step forward and help deliver a vital community makeover at The Y Centre. The centre is part of Hastings and Rother YMCA, and is a community space dedicated to helping children and young people live a healthy lifestyle and reach their full potential.
Earlier this year, PMW invited charities and not-for-profit organisations across Sussex to nominate projects that would make a difference as part of its Challenge PMW initiative. From over 60 nominations, The Y Centre was chosen for a transformation, but making this vision a reality requires more than goodwill. It needs the hands-on help of local suppliers, tradespeople and businesses to turn it into something that provides a valuable service to the community.

Specifically, the team is seeking donations of essential materials to help renovate the small training kitchen, including kitchen cabinets, countertops, commercial sized pots and pans, roller shutter and paint, as well as the time and expertise of local tradespeople, from decorators to carpenters.
Alternatively, if a local business or organisation would prefer to financially sponsor the purchase of key items, the Challenge PMW team would be delighted to hear from them. Every contribution will help bring this project to life.
Peter Sutton, Managing Director of PMW and leader of the Challenge PMW campaign says: “The Y Centre does so much to help children and young people be the best they can be. We want to turn their small kitchen into a purpose-built space to help young people develop real-life cooking skills and learn about healthy eating and nutrition, giving them confidence and tools for life, but we can’t do it alone. We need local businesses and trades to step forward and help us make it happen.
“Just like the spirit of the old TV show Challenge Anneka, this initiative is about pulling together a community army, from big corporates with CSR budgets to local tradespeople who simply want to give something back. We know it’s a big ask to donate time or materials in today’s climate, but you’d be helping deliver a fantastic project for a brilliant local charity. Any business helping us will be recognised with pro bono marketing services from our team as part of the project.”
Interested suppliers, businesses and trades should contact PMW on 01403 783400 to speak with a member of the Challenge PMW team. Alternatively, they can email challengepmw@pmwcom.co.uk by 30th June 2025, with their contact details and a description of what they can potentially offer.
