Then and now – The Kings Head in Ore

Once again with grateful thanks to those who compose the Derelict in the UK website and social media pages we bring you another pub, this time The Kings Head in Rye Road.

Before and after – the old pub which finally disappeared last year and the new houses that now stand in its place.

Derelict in the UK say it was difficult to find out much history of the The Kings Head although the first mention they could find of ‘The Kings Head Inn at Ore’ was in 1867.

This pub though first shut early in the decade before reopening for a short time then closing down finally in 2015. There were rumours at one stage tat the building was to be converted to a veterinary surgery but nothing came of that and the site was sold at auction and bought by Park Lane Group with the houses having been completed this year.

Who remembers partying the night away in here at a birthday, a wedding or other event?
The signage was all still very fresh despite the pub having been shut for some time when these pictures were taken. It’s almost as if, on that final night, the staff didn’t realise they’d never open the pub again.
Lay-z-boy for a lazy boy? Which regulars put their heads down for a few hours shut-eye on this?
But at the end of the day The Kings Head is gone but we’re pretty sure the memories it helped create for local people will live on for many years to come!

  1. I live facing the kings head and I have been taking pictures from start to finish .. it’s so much better now… and the builders were very quite while working..

  2. I worked there for a while late 80cs early 90’s, a proper community pub, where 90% of customers were regulars. Met some wonderful people and true characters.
