Ready for ‘kombat’ HKA clocks up more success in Kent’s Kombat Zone

Hastings Kickboxing Academy fighters were at Kombat Zone in Kent on Sunday and a successful night it was for them too.

George French once again proved his dominance in the ring winning with what his coach carl Denne described as: “…a perfectly executed body shot from the heavens. Something we have been working on over the last few weeks.”

George has now notched up an impressive five wins in just four weeks, carl says: ” In the last few weeks we have seen a huge change in George’s fighting style and demeanour and we’re really looking forward to a busy and punishing year ahead.

HKA’s Jake Willard fought Luke Walsh from TKO Elite in the 52kg division.

“Im told by Colin Payne that we are blessed with 50 per cent more energy than everyone else,” says Carl.

This turned out to be a great fight, Carl says: “Round one could have gone either way, neither lad won nor lost it, both gave 100 per cent. Did the judges go for aggression? Landed shots? Ring control? Countering skills? For me it was a draw.

“In round two, the fight swayed back and forth, both had real successes during the round but they also both took the shots like seasoned pros. Luke landed a flush head kick and Jake just shrugged his shoulders and fired back. Again it was back to who was doing the majority of the work to gain the round. For me I thought Jake had just done enough.

“Round 3 does nothing but showcase their talent and skill – they trade back and forth but with no wildness, always clean, crisp techniques, resilience, and aggression. But Jake did lose this round!  But what a fight overall!”

Carl pointed out that this was Jake’s first K1 bout he’d never trained or conditioned for K1 and had had four days of prep work and a crash course in leg kicks to get ready for the contest.

In the final decision the judges made it a draw and carl says he is ‘very happy’ with that.

“What I love is that both lads are true warriors. They are back to work and school the next day and they’re be both back in the gym the next night, ready to get on with their preparation for their next bouts.
