Bank holiday festivities put Hastings on the map!
Hastings enjoyed another busy weekend as visitors flocked to the town to enjoy the Jack in the Green Morris dancing festival and Bike 1066 events.
Kevin Boorman, marketing manager for Hastings Borough Council said: “What another fantastic May Day bank holiday! The combination of Jack in the Green and the May Day motor bike run meant the town enjoyed another brilliant weekend. Although not as hot as last year, or this Easter, there was still a fantastic atmosphere. The car parks filled up very quickly, and the trains were arriving at the station full with passengers having to stand, giving the town a real buzz.
“For the last year two years the Jack in the Green finale has been brought forward – because of the rain in 2017 and the heat in 2018 – this year we were treated to a full afternoon of performances by the Morris Dancers on the West Hill. As well as many local sides, visiting dancers came from as far away as Wales and Yorkshire. It was also great to see so many giants taking part again.
“The motorbikes were just fantastic as always, attracting huge crowds too, taking up almost every inch of available space on the seafront and in the town centre.
“I’d like to thank all of the organisers for the tremendous job they do, particularly the Jack in the Green committee who are all volunteers.
“We certainly put Hastings on the map again this weekend.”
