As part of next month’s Hastings Week local people are being invited to participate in the Edith Festival 2025.

There will be a Modern English reading and performance of one of the oldest Old English poems, Beowulf, under the title ‘Edith, a King, Three Monsters and a Hero’. The event will be held in the Marina Fountain, immediately opposite Edith’s statue in West Marina Gardens on Saturday October 18th between 7pm and 10pm.

The first part of the event will feature a reading, with acted speeches, film and music and acompanying graphics and will be followed after a short break by a presentation on what the poem is really about and its relevance to both Edith and our lives today.

As part of the experience the performance will be ‘in the round’ among the audience who will be seated at long tables as if in an Anglo-Saxon meadhall. And to make the experince even more apposite, food and drink will be available to order from the bar from 5pm onwards. A special ‘Grendel Burger’ and mead will be available to get you in the mood.

It should be a good evening of fun and learning and a rich experience for all, so I hope you will want to join us.
