Roger came from a musical family and started piano lessons early. His early musical life was based around the methodist chapel in the Lancashire village where he grew up. He remembers learning the piano and the organ and then taking up the bugle once he joined the Boys Brigade and he fondly recalls marching through the streets of the village playing as part of a band.

At school he discovered choral music and classical music but he loves rock too. There are not many genres of music Roger doesn’t appreciate and he says he is fascinated by the composition of rap music.

In July though Roger will be back where he feels at home, on stage, conducting an orchestra and a choir of more than 100 voices in front of an audience of 1,000 plus, “It’s a wonderful feeling,” he says.
