Full borough and county council election results – bad election for Labour, Hastings has its first Green councillor on both councils

Full results from yesterday’s elections for 16 of the 32 seats on Hastings Borough Council and in the eight Hastings wards of East Sussex County Council. The results of the vote for Police and Crime Commissioner will not be announced until Monday.

Even where Labour is winning its vote is down on the 2018 results. In Braybrooke Labour’s Dominic Sabetian won 1,043 votes in 2018 Sabina Arthur managed 739 yesterday. Maya Evans recorded 632 votes in 2018 and 560 this year; Trevor Webb in Central St Leonards has seen his vote drop from 814 to 704 with the Greens taking second with 406 votes in that ward.
Even the formidable Godfrey Daniel, Labour’s consistent big vote winner, saw his support drop from 1848 in 2018 to 1633 this time round.

Thanks Stuart! So we have our first Green Party councillor and a couple of Conservative gains. Perhaps we will end up with a council that listens more to the local communities
– hope so!
Congratulations to Karl Beaney for holding the West St.Leonards seat, commiserations to John Cannan, Jane Packman and, Stewart Gregory Rayment.
This clearly demonstrates the lack of trust felt by the community of the controlling Labour group, one that is seemingly echoed nationally.
It looks to me as though the voters have made it a mark on how they feel this current council is treating the them. Yes Bryan some better hope they will listen to the community but Labour are still in overall control. They will just have to work harder at opposing what the public want and not what they want all the time.
I do hope the Conservatives will be more vocal and challenging than in the past.
