Man hospitalised with ‘serious injury’ after assault with a metal pole

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked with a metal pole in Hastings.

Officers were called to the fishermen’s huts near The Stade, Rock-a-Nore Road, around 6pm on Saturday (June 13th) to reports of an assault.

The 22-year-old victim had got into a minor disagreement with an unknown man, during which he was hit on the head with a long metal object. He suffered a serious injury requiring hospital treatment.

The suspect is described as white, around 5′ 10″, bald and was wearing a white top and either blue or green shorts.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Ian Dearling said: “This was a nasty assault which resulted in the victim being hospitalised.

“It was a sunny afternoon and we know there were a number of people walking or driving past at the time of the assault.

“We are appealing to anyone who saw what happened to contact us. In particular, I would like to speak to a shirtless man who offered to help the victim while he was waiting for the ambulance.”

Anyone who witnessed the assault, or who has any other information about what happened, is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 1223 of 13/06.

Alternatively, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
