The UK’s best kebab chef is right here in Hastings
Congratulations to our local kebab heroes at Batman Grill in Battle Road, its chef Hamza Yalcin has been honoured as the best kebab chef in Britain at the The British Kebab Awards.
The Batman Grill was also Highly Commended in the Just Eat Best Delivery section of the competition – it’s the second year in a row that Batman Grill has scooped top honours at the awards.
Thousands of members of the public voted for the 150 finalists to face the judges who included MPs Carolyn Harris and David Warburton; British journalist, Ash Sarkar; and Cobra Beer Sales Director, Samson Sohail.
At a glitzy award ceremony last night the winners were unveiled at at the eighth annual British Kebab Awards, which celebrates the £2.8 billion industy.
More than 1,200 guests including more than 110 MPs and Lords, were treated to a cocktail reception with a three-course Anatolian-style meal.
The British Kebab Awards is the only one of its kind to recognise the British kebab industry, which supports 200,000 jobs across restaurants, suppliers and the food industry. Every day, more than 1.3m kebabs are sold across Britain.
UK Managing Director of awards sponsor Just Eat, Andrew Kenny, said: “It’s a great honour to have once again sponsored the British Kebab Awards.

Local MP Sally-Ann Hart who visited the Battle Road kebab shop last week said of Hamz after the awards: “He’s done our town incredibly proud, and I encourage everyone to go and try the amazing multiple award winning kebabs at Batman Grill!
“When I visited I had an amazing sample of their kebabs and I’ve got to say, we do have the best kebabs in Britain here in Hastings!”
