This week local Lib Dems welcome a former Tory candidate (and Labour activist?) to their ranks

Just a week after announcing they had won over former Labour councillor Lee Clark local Liberal Democrats have proudly unveiled their latest recruit – this time a former Conservative activist.

Dom Sayer came second to Labour’s Mayor Nigel Sinden when he stood for election to Hastings Borough Council in the Silverhill ward in 2016.

Announcing his decision to join the Lib Dems this week Mr Sayer said it was the party’s clear position on remaining in the EU that was a major factor in his decision.

“I am a proud European and I believe our ties with Europe need strengthening in these times of a globalised economy,” he says.

He also threw his wholehearted support behind the Lib Dem’s prospective parliamentary candidate Nick Perry sying: “He is exactly the sort of person I want representing my town.”

Mr Sayer also hasn’t rules out standing for office again himself but says that next time round it would be as a Liberal Democrat.

Picture from TwitterStill prominent on Mr Sayer’s social media profile this morning is this photograph that includes, among others, Hastings’ Deputy Mayor James Bacon that would suggest that Mr Sayer has also had allegiance to the local Labour Party in the past.
