Andrew’s expansion strategy hits its target
Hastings man Andrew Gurney saw his business career take a big step forward this week with his announcement that his law firm is expanding.
The former William Parker pupil qualified as a solicitor nearly 20 years ago setting up a practice, Gurney Harden, in Ashford in 2008. On Monday he announced he had acquired a practice with offices in West Sussex, Hampshire and London, Mr Gurney said: “The acquisition of Edwards Hayes is a logical step in the development of Gurney Harden. Established in 2008 we now employ more than 40 staff from offices in Ashford, Medway, Hastings, Eastbourne and London.
“The well-respected firm of Edwards Hayes, established in 1961, has 23 staff based in at offices in Worthing, Havant, Portsmouth, East Wittering and Central London.”
Mr Gurney says he is, “…absolutely delighted,” to be able to bring the two firms together: “The acquisition of Edward Hayes is part of a long term strategy that we set out in 2016 to grow and develop our business.
“Edward Hayes is a highly regarded legal firm, winning that reputation based on vigorous representation and commitment to thorough preparation and is, therefore a perfect fit for us, for that is the ethos that Gurney Harden was founded on.
“I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know the very talented staff at Edward Hayes and sharing with them the vision I have for the future, a future they will all be very much involved in shaping.”
Mr Gurney is a specialist in criminal litigation and advocacy, he says: “I am passionate about the law and passionate about ensuring people have access to the best possible legal representation. In 2016 I mapped out my vision for this practice and that is to create a firm which will provide high quality representation that is accessible to all.”
The offices of Edward Hayes will continue to trade using that name, “People are familiar with the Edward Hayes name and reputation and we recognise that and want to build on that says,” says Mr Gurney.

would like to know if Mr Gurney is still in business or has it gone into Administration as he does not answer telephone calls or emails. Since taking over Edward Hayes the service is terrible.
A Grey. Gurney Harden went into administration in Jan 2020. But they stopped operating on cases before this. If you would like their insurance teams I can send you over the details. I too have been left without my file closed or court order implemented.
