Backing conservation and offering protection for songbirds

The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) met Amber Rudd MP last week and presented her with a birdbox to encourage conservation in her constituency.

It’s that latest in a series of cross-party political meetings by the BASC. The organisation’s Political Affairs Manager Jak Abrahams discussed a range of ongoing conservation projects, including an update on the association’s birdbox education project.

Ms Rudd said: “Conservation is incredibly important to me and I have always campaigned for the protection of species that are under threat. I want to thank the BASC for donating this birdbox and I look forward to working with them in the future to promote conservation in our towns.”

Mr Abrahams said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for MPs from across the political spectrum to come together and do something really positive for wildlife. I am delighted that Amber has chosen to take part and I thank her for her contribution and commitment to conservation.”

The meeting which was hosted at Rye Castle focused on education and the importance of supporting songbirds.

BASC’s project aims to connect young people with wildlife by helping them put up their own birdboxes and watching the fascinating results. Over the summer BASC has visited schools around the country in order to put up birdboxes and teach the children about the types of birds that will potentially call the box their home.

Further discussions centred around the conservation work that BASC is doing in the South East region and commending the Rye Castle team for conserving the site for future generations.
