Cultural twists brought to the table

On Friday Buckswood students and parents took part in a bake off to raise money for Macmillan Cancer research.

The previous week, students took a lesson out of their busy timetable to take part in the traditional apple pick, collecting apples from the school’s extensive orchards ready to turn into a variety of treats  and, just this week, students were collecting grapes from the school’s vineyard, part of their wider education about the importance of locally sourced produce.

The annual event was attended by numerous parents and is part of the school’s wider community and charity focus. Co-principal Kevin Samson said: “Buckswood is home to 33 different nationalities, so it was great to see the students bringing their own cultural twists to the table which ensured lot’s of variety and a successful event.

“We are still busily counting the proceeds but we believe over £300 has been raised for Macmillan, which is great news.”

Students used the school’s kitchen and cooking room facilities from early in the morning to prepare their dishes and these were sold throughout the day.
