The world’s largest online BMX bike retailer is right here in Hastings and last week it was rewarded for all it has achieved in the 15 years since it was founded when it was presented with The Queen’s Awards For Enterprise in the field of international trade.
Peter Field, the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex visited the Source Park in Hastings on Thursday to present the business with the award. The presentation was made to the company founders Richard and Marc Moore and was attended by the Chairman of East Sussex County Council, Councillor Peter Pragnell and the Mayor of Hastings, Councillor Nigel Sinden, as well as by proud employees, friends, family and customers. This award allows the company to fly the Queens Award flag as well as using the Queens Award marks until April 2023.
Managing director Richard Moore says it’s a huge honour to be awarded a Queens Award, “this is by far the most prestigious business accolade you can get, and it’s a great reflection of the hard work of all of our team”
His brother Marc, Source Park’s sales director, added: “We were really honoured to receive this award for our export business which is still growing rapidly and now represents over half of all our sales. The Source Park and Hastings feature heavily in all our overseas marketing and we’re grateful to receive this award on behalf of our staff.”
Hastings mayor Nigel Sinden said he was proud to have been invited, saying: “Winning this award is a major achievement. It is really deserved, and I pay tribute to Richard and Marc who started this now multimillion pound business – providing much-needed employment – from their bedroom. This award recognises just what they, and their team, have done in just 15 years.”
The Source was founded by Richard and Marc in March 2003. It started as a tiny shop and the company has grown in each of the past 15 years to become the World’s largest online BMX retailer. As well as the website, the company opened The Source Park in 2016 the culmination of a two year project to convert the derelict Turkish Baths a project done in conjunction with Hastings Borough Council, The Foreshore Trust and East Sussex County Council.
The Source Park hosts some of the World’s largest BMX and Skateboard events and is open seven days a week to the public for lessons, birthday parties and drop in sessions.
The company employ 54 staff locally and is the subject of an award winning film on Amazon Prime, ‘The Source Park Documentary’.
